Hi friends, it's Kristin again and I'm posting about none other than our first Grim Geeks outing! We decided to get some sushi before going to our first escape room together! We did some recordings of before and after the room but I'm still in the process of editing it.
Personally, I love sushi and I can eat it all day if I really wanted to. Just to make this short, the food was awesome. I mean a lot of the time any AYCE places are pretty lit. So yeah, it was great. Spicy Tuna hand rolls for life *fist pump*
NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT THE CROMWELL ESTATE.
The Cromwell Estate has been a room that's been on my radar for quite sometime. A couple of months ago, I was doing research for an escape room and stumbled upon a Living Social/Groupon deal for this place and thought I'd check it out. Unfortunately, they book real quick so I wasn't able to book anything until today. Luckily I squeezed in for a 9:00pm with some strangers because it was going to be Jose's and Josie's first time doing an escape room.
Location, Parking, and Traffic: It's located right off the 91 freeway on Tustin right next to the US Bank ( I legit drove around a couple of times because I kept missing it.) Parking was fine, enough spaces because it's located in a business building. I mean if you live in Southern California and you don't know what the 91 is like, check google maps. More towards the evening it's not too bad.
Story & Outline: The game masters do such a great job with the story telling in my personal opinion. There were times at different escape rooms that they pretty much said "Lol so like you're trapped so figure a way out" and it kinda ruins the mood a little. The Cromwell Estate brought us to a hallway and explained the story as well as added some scare factor into the mix. I also tend to scream a lot. A LOT.
Scare Factor: I personally think it's about a 6. Nothing too bad. There were no background music throughout the room, and that was scary itself. There were some scares I didn't expect and so yes, I screamed and I'm not sorry for everyone who was playing with us because scurred.
Puzzles: TBH, I blame the strangers for not understanding the puzzles correctly. This is another reason why I'm probably never doing it with strangers ever again. Communication is KEY and they were only communicating with each other and not with Josie, Jose and I. Literally had the answer to a puzzle and this girl kept ignoring what I was saying. THEN there was this guy who kept calling his girlfriend over and saying "BABY" and I'm like in my head "Y'all are those gross couples who are super clingy but whatevah" ANYWAYS. Some of the puzzles were very thought out. We only asked for a hint twice. Honestly thought we should have asked earlier because it would have saved us so much time.
Time: 60 minutes. If your whole group is on the same page, you can escape from this room. Can you see I'm really salty that we took so long on some puzzles?
Overall, I think it really pays off when you play with people who have done an escape room before. Being the only one who has ever done one before I kinda observed how everyone was looking like a chicken with their head cut off. Good communication is key, I honestly don't know how many times I have to say it. Lingering on something that doesn't have anything to do with a puzzle is only going to hurt the team in time.
That being said, The Cromwell Estate was great. The game masters were very welcoming, and very informative. We spoke to them for almost a good hour after the game to talk about upcoming events and interests we all share. I can't wait for another escape room with my grim geeks again.
Well that's it everyone. More posts to come. We just created some social media so keep an eye out. We made our first vlog doing our introductions! (Yeah I realize that we were gonna do it months ago, but you know, life)
